THE RACE - ISSUE 14
The World at Your Doorstep
Do you ever watch television or read a
newsmagazine and wander about life in another country? What are these
different looking people really like?
Have you ever wished to meet
someone from another country?
Well, you probably don't have to travel too
far. Perhaps, only a couple of streets away.
God promised Abraham in
Genesis 12, "In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." Indeed,
the peoples and nations of the world have been blessed through the "friend of
God." The Bible chronicles the story if his family, his people, and
ultimately his most important Descendant- Christ Jesus.
Now, at the
dawn of a new century and a new millenium, God is saying to us- the Church,
"In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed."
For most of us,
Algeria is a very distant land. Depending on where you live, Algeria is a
distance of thousands of miles or only a few hours by airplane. However, God
in His providence, has allowed the nations of the world the privilege of
hosting Algerians on their own soil.
Algerians have come to the West in
order to further their education or to seek economic advancement. Many of
today's world leaders studied in the Western universities and institutions.
In France alone, there are over a million Algerian Arabs living and
working!
Many other Western countries have large Algerian populations.
For example, in the United States and Canada, there are Algerian Associations
made up of Algerian college students and Algerian workers and business
professionals.. In July 1999, while speaking to the Algerian-American
Convention in Boston, Massachusetts, Joseph Kennedy II noted the visible ties
between Boston and Algeria. Boston is the primary North American destination
for Algerian natural gas. New England also hosts a large Algerian-American
Association. Most of these associations can be contacted through the
Internet.
Indeed, Algeria is at our doorstep.
Tragically, for many
Algerians and other foreigners living in the West, very few are ever invited
into nationals' homes- and even fewer are ever invited into the homes of
Christians!!!
What an opportunity to share the message and love of Christ
with Algerians and other internationals!
What a shame and a disgrace
to not seize this moment in history to change the world from our own
cities!
Please, pray for God to show you and your church, or fellowship
group, ways to reach out to Algerians and other internationals in your
areas- communities, college campuses, professional sectors.
You don't
have to travel five thousand miles to change the world- sometimes you just
have to go five blocks.
The world is at your doorstep!
[Special
Note: The World at Your Doorstep is a great book on ministry to and among
international students written by International Students, Inc. It's well
worth reading!]
