THE RACE - ISSUE 15
You Believe What?!?

We have just finished celebrating the most important Christian holiday of the year- or eternity!

Easter.  The Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We know the story; most of us could quote the passages from the Bible on the Resurrection.  It is truly the pivotal point in our faith.

The Apostle Paul said it best, "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain." (1 Corinthians 15:14)

Recently, I was talking with a North African friend about sports, I think.. When all of the sudden, he asks me a very interesting question.

"Do you really believe that Jesus died?"

My initial feeling was- "Yes, of course!"  Then, I quickly reflected upon the severity of his question- it was not a simple one for him.  His tradition was (as that of thousands of other Muslims) that Jesus did not die on the cross; God had substituted someone else for Him.  "No prophet of God could die in such a dishonorable way!"

I had spoken with Muhammad about Christ, His life- teachings, miracles, the cross & the resurrection, and His importance in my own life.  Apparently, God's Spirit had been speaking to him about these things-

What if they are true?  What does this truth mean to you?  What are you going to do in light of this truth?

"Do you really believe that Jesus died?" again, he asked.

"Yes, Muhammad, I do believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross.  I also believe that Jesus came back from the dead.  And this is why . . ." I continued by pointing out from Scripture the importance of Jesus' death and resurrection.  Muhammad came to a greater understanding of my faith and why Easter is so important to meā The resurrection was more than merely a "physical" act- rather it had the most profound impact on humanity.  The transcendent God had been brought near to man in Jesus Christ.  It is He who has bridged the gulf between the Holy and the unholy.

Jesus is truly Emmanuel, "God with us!"

Please, pray for the many Muhammads of Algeria- that they may come to know the truth about Jesus Christ and choose to follow Him.
