Restless Heart
When we as believers confess, we are admitting our need of God and of
the presence of our sin. But also and as importantly, we are
acknowledging God's wonder and majesty. We praise Him for His
holiness and goodness.
When St. Augustine, the great Algerian Church Father, wrote his
"Confessions," he had this in mind. His life had been marked by sin,
bad choices, pressures, heresies, needs, and a searching heart. In
listening to the messages of St. Ambrose, Augustine discovered the
truth about who God is, his life (and that of the world's) was changed
forever.
"You [God] stir man to take pleasure in praising You, because You have
made us for Yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in
You." ("Confessions" Book I. i (1))
Today, the lives of millions of Algerians are marked by sin, bad
choices, pressures, heresies, needs, and searching hearts. Only the
message of peace and hope can bring rest to their restless hearts.
Please, pray that God in His mercy would open the eyes of Algerians
today to the truth of who He is. Pray that, like St. Augustine, they
will confess their need of God and confess Jesus as Lord of All.
