This past weekend saw one of the worst catastrophes to hit Algeria in history. Violent winds and heavy rain lashed northern Algeria, collapsing buildings, flooding roads. Death totals are over 300 and could rise.
The capital, Algiers, was the hardest hit. Well over 200 died in Algiers. Others lost their lives in cities only the northern coast. For example, in Oran, a couple of children died as they were swept away by the floodwaters.
A long dry spell ended with an incredible amount of rainfall falling all at once. Airports, roads and communication lines were closed. Buildings collapsed, especially in the poorest area of Algiers, Bab el Oued.
Please, pray for the victims and their families during this difficult time. Pray that God Spirit would be able to minister to the hearts of grieving Algerians today.
