THE RACE - ISSUE 50 February 2002
Unforgettable Touch

Ever had one of those experiences, which was so profound, so moving that it will remain with you forever?

Well, a colleague just had one. While in country, he met a young man about his age who had survived enormous tragedies. This Algerian man spoke with a heart-felt sorrow and from a depth of wisdom that no foreigner could ever possess. The years of blood, massacres, and terrorism had devastated his family. One brother killed. Another brother lost his leg. And yet another one was severely injured.

And then it happened. This young Algerian took the foreigner's hand and put it upon his own head. He rubbed the hand over his scalp. The fingers that had never touched tragedy like this Algerian had was now touching deep cuts and injuries caused by a terrorist's knife.

With tears in his eyes, the foreigner listened to the Algerian's tale and of his hope for the future. A beautiful country, a hospitable people, so much promise.

Overlooking the rocky shore, they watched the sun set once again on Algeria. Oh, that today the scars of war and destruction would be replaced by the healing touch of Christ Jesus.

Please, pray that many Algerians would feel the unforgettable touch of Christ Jesus' scars. The scars he bore on the cross for us all.
