East Algeria flood death toll reaches 29

The death toll from floods caused by freak heavy rain in eastern Algeria has risen to 29, more than half of them children, state-run media said on Wednesday. The latest confirmed casualties were four children who were swept away by raging flood waters on Monday in Mila, 280 km (175 miles) east of Algiers, together with 11 others.

"The heaviest human loss was in Mila where 15 children have died in the floods," a newspaper reported. The children, aged six to 14, were picking wild fruit in woods when they were caught out by a freak hailstorm. They took shelter under a bridge but flood waters surged down the river and swept them away.

Algiers has also suffered flood damage but no casualties have been reported. Hundreds were left homeless in populous districts of the capital where decrepit houses collapsed or were damaged.

Please, pray for these who have lost loved ones & for God to somehow use this tragedy to further His Kingdom.
