THE RACE - ISSUE 58 December 2002
The Fourth Door

A couple of years before the “civil war” in Algeria began, Hamid was preparing to go to Afghanistan to teach Islam & the Qur'an. His devotion to Islam was apparent from his white tunic & long maintained beard to his ability to quote from the Qur’an & the Hadith.

But he had an “embarrassing” problem; his brother was a Christian.

Hamid tried to woo back his apostate brother. He even flushed his brother’s New Testament down the toilet! But all his attempts failed.

Hamid met another Christian in the town, a beautiful young woman named Farida. She had trusted Christ through listening to radio broadcasts. They became friends though he always questioned her faith in Christ.

As Hamid saw the faith of his brother & the devotion of this young woman, he began to search for “the truth.” This led him to compare what the Bible & the Qur’an said about Jesus Christ.

Then one day, it happened.

He saw a room with four doors. He approached the first door and opened it. Therein lie a cold, penetrating darkness. He shivered and the door closed. The second door opened to reveal a myriad of sensual pleasures. Hamid stepped forward to enter but an unseen hand held him back. The door closed. In the third door, he saw thousands of Muslims prostrated towards Mecca. Since this had been his practice & his source of devotion, Hamid tried to enter. But again, the unseen hand held him back, and Hamid turned to the fourth door.

The door opened engulfing Hamid with a blinding light. Shielding his eyes from the radiant beams, he could make out two figures standing near the doorframe. One was Christ Jesus smiling, inviting him in and the other was Farida, his young Christian friend.

As the vision ended, Hamid now knew the Truth. He told his brother and Farida of his new faith in Christ. Months afterwards, Hamid & Farida became husband & wife!

From a most dedicated Islamic teacher to a most dedicated Christian minister, Hamid’s journey of salvation & life took him through . . . the Fourth Door.

Please, pray that Christ Himself will continue to reveal Himself in power through visions to the people of Algeria. “… as I was on my way about noontime, a very bright light suddenly flashed from heaven all around me, and I fell to the ground … and He said to me, ‘I am Jesus’.” (Acts 22: 6-8)
