“Pray for Algeria Day”

Saturday, September 24, 2005 a group of believers, in Europe, will be gathering for a time of concentrated prayer for Algeria and her people. We would like to encourage you, our prayer partners and advocates, to set aside a day (possibly the same day in September), or a segment of time during one (or more) Sunday morning worship services in September, or a Wednesday night service in September to pray specifically for Algeria.

You can find information/prayer requests/pictures, etc. about Algeria on the following websites:
www.therace.ws
www.imb.org
www.bethany.com
www.algeria.com
www.joshuaproject.net

If you would like a copy of our promotional materials CD please let us know and we’ll be happy to send one to you … (CD includes a PowerPoint slideshow, bulletin insert, posters, prayer guide for children (can be adapted to fit your children’s group, and a people profile).

Ideas for Promoting “Pray for Algeria Day”
  • Host a Women's Prayer Tea to remember and learn about the women of Algeria. Serve hot mint tea or coffee with delicacies such as almond cookies, baklava and dates. Ask each woman to bring a scarf to cover her head and a small rug or blanket on which to kneel to represent the customs of Muslim women when they pray. Focus your prayers on the needs of Algerian women in their role as mother, wife and sister.

  • Plan an authentic Algerian couscous dinner (church-wide, or for specific age-level groups). Check the www.therace.ws website (click on “links”) for the couscous recipe. Print prayer requests for Algeria on take-home place cards to be used as prayer reminders.

  • Recruit more prayer partners to add to our mailing list. Then, please send us the new contact names, e-mail and regular mailing addresses.

  • Collect “trinkets” (bracelets, bookmarks, cards, etc. that are marked with Christian logos, Scripture verses, pictures, etc.) that will be taken to students in Algeria. These gifts should be small enough to fit several in one’s pocket or purse … not overtly evangelistic but focusing on the characteristics of God and the benefits of the Christian life. Themes like: “God is Love”, “God our Father”, “The Peace of God”, and “The Fruit of The Spirit” are more appropriate themes for sharing the gospel with Muslims.

  • Decorate a church bulletin board with pictures and prayer requests about Algeria. You can get pictures/prayer requests from the website (www.therace.ws) or from the Algeria promotional materials CD.

  • Let youth and/or children’s missions groups create posters for “Pray for Algeria Day” … place them in strategic places around the church.

  • Give handout sheets of Algeria prayer requests to people as they come into the worship center on Sunday morning, or include prayer requests for Algeria in the Sunday worship guide.

  • Set up a display, in a strategic area of the church, with items related to Algeria. Hand out prayer requests.

  • Have a man or woman dress up as an Algerian Arab and speak briefly in a Sunday morning worship service. This person could give facts about Algeria and present specific prayer requests. (This could be a very effective presentation).

  • Prayerwalk Algeria. Tape a LARGE map of Algeria on the floor of the church fellowship hall or activities center. Mark specific cities/people groups, and provide prayer requests at each “stop”. Create an environment that encourages your church to be involved in praying for Algeria all year long.

  • Send prayer requests for Algeria to homebound members of your church. These folks can’t come to church services/activities, but they can pray.

Thank you for what you do to encourage prayer support for Algerian Arabs. We are grateful for you, and pray God’s blessings on you as you partner with us in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ around the world.

(We would be very interested in hearing from you, before or after your prayer emphasis on “Pray for Algeria Day”. You may have prayer support ideas that we haven’t thought of. We can share your ideas with our other prayer partners and advocates).
