Project Northern Lights 2005

Piercing the Darkness…
Predominantly Muslim, the countries of North Africa have traditionally been closed to the gospel. Media distribution in Europe is one of the few means by which the people of these countries may ever hear the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Project Northern Lights (PNL) is a ministry that places free Bibles and other Christian literature into the hands of North Africans traveling from Southern Europe to North Africa.
What is PNL…
Project Northern Lights is a summer project operated by full time staff. This exciting project utilizes teams of short-term volunteers to carry out the Great Commission by focusing on distribution and evangelism among North African people groups.

The goal of this project is to saturate these people groups with God’s Word, thereby fostering a Church Planting Movement in this region of North Africa darkened for centuries by the absence of God’s light. Each week during this project the aspiration of piercing the darkness strives to be obtained, hundreds of Bibles and “Jesus Films” are personally given to North African travelers at port gates in Southern Europe.
A typical day at PNL…
A typical day for volunteers is never boring and is always full of ministry opportunities. Volunteers fill their days in four main activities.

Packet preparation
At the distribution center, volunteers combine individual media materials into one bag for distribution.

Prayer and Worship
Continuous prayer and worship go up from volunteers of various languages, countries, and Christian traditions worldwide. Prayer, being an essential element of PNL is a major focus of the day’s work. Prayer walking along the port and various key-points in the city is also included.

Distribution
Distribution begins at the port gates early each morning through late afternoon, according to scheduled boat departures.

Volunteers stand at various entrance points at the port to offer the packets to travelers leaving for North Africa.

Evangelism
French speakers and interpreters in nearby North African communities lead Evangelism regularly.

So now you know about the project and what it entails, now the question is
HOW DO YOU GET INVOLVED??
  • Be a minimum of 15 years old.
  • Participate for a minimum of 8-9 days; extension is possible.
  • Previous language skills helpful, but not necessary. Volunteers will learn appropriate phrases prior to distribution.

  • Be an advocate for North Africa by networking prayer sponsors for your PNL involvement.
The people of North Africa need to know the light you have through Jesus Christ. When will YOU help pierce their darkness?
